About the Author

Awilda Haas person
In 1991, she earned a BA degree in Spanish from University of Minnesota. Dedicated to her academic work, she studied English, French, Brazilian Portuguese, and Latin. During her time at UM she also tutored all levels of Spanish and was a club officer for “Latinos Unidos”. In 1996, Prof. Haas earned her MA degree in Spanish from University of Kansas. During her time at KU, she taught Spanish beginning courses for four years. Prof. Haas has traveled to various Spanish-speaking countries and has studied at the University of Puerto Rico, Málaga Sí, Spain and at Inca Garcilaso de la Vega University in Lima, Peru. In 1999, she began her journey as a fulltime professor at Kansas City Kansas Community College, where she has been ever since. She is currently the Foreign Language Coordinator, a position she has held for twelve years. Her first textbook, ¡Qué va!, was published in 2015 and was used at KCKCC for five years. Her second textbook, Spanish for Teachers, was published in 2018 and is currently use at KCKCC. Her fourth book, Hablemos was published in 2025.
