About the Author

Jeffery Swartwood person
Jeffery Neal Swartwood earned his PhD at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1994. He completed his graduate training in the Brain Research and Neuropsychology Laboratory, specializing in developmental neuroscience. There, he conducted basic and applied research involving students with disabilities, as well as typically developing students. He then completed a two-year clinical postdoctoral training program at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics. His primary responsibilities involved conducting comprehensive assessments of students with developmental and learning differences, with a focus on the formulation of appropriate educational placement recommendations.

Dr. Swartwood is currently an Associate Professor of Psychology at the State University of New York, Cortland. He teaches courses in Educational Psychology, Applied Research Methods, Research Methods, Positive Psychology, Child Development, and Abnormal Psychology. His scholarly research has focused on executive function and attention in students. He is currently conducting research in Positive Psychology and Education, examining the effects of mindfulness practice on achievement. He has published scholarly works in Pediatric Neurology, the Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, Physiology & Behavior, the Creativity Research Journal, and the Emory Symposia in Cognition. In addition, he actively shares his work with colleagues, teachers, and preservice teachers through workshops and conference presentations.
